In healthcare, interoperability means the frictionless, secure exchange of electronic health data between healthcare providers, insurance payers and the patients themselves. Exchange of data means better decision-making, better care outcomes, and savings in both time and money. Healthcare’s road must lead to interoperability.
In practice, this road to interoperability is sometimes a bumpy ride, due to incompatible systems; financial concerns; various admin and reporting requirements; and old-fashioned trust issues. What can be done?
